Monthly Animal Control Division Report #22. July 24, 2007
Statistics Jan 06 through Feb 08
Statistics Oct 05 through Mar 06
The Total number of dogs and cats impounded from Oct 05 through Mar 06 was 11,111.
All numbers and graphs represented here are based on ADJUSTED impound numbers. Adjusted meaning, dead animals
picked up by ACO's (animal control officers) and disposed of (1,218 dogs and cats) have been backed out of the impound
numbers.
Outcomes shown here are final outcomes. If a dog or cat was impounded in March 2006, these
charts and graphs will show if that animal was redeemed, rescued, adopted, etc...even if the final outcome was
in May 2006. So, outcomes here don't tell us how many animals were redeemed in March, they tell us how
many animals were impounded in March and later redeemed.
Number of Days in Shelter
Number of Days in Shelter
Numbers to the left in the graph above are the number of dogs and cats euthanized. Numbers at the bottom
show how many days these animals were in the shelter.
So what we see here is that from
Oct 05 through Mar 06, a little over 500 dogs and cats were euthanized on the very first day they were
in the shelter. These are mostly very sick or injured animals. You can easily identify the 4 day hold
period and then immediately after that, euthanasia skyrockets. 1,200 animals were killed after they had
been at the shelter only 5 days while close to 2,000 were killed after being at the shelter only 6
days.

Most of the animals redeemed by their owners were picked up within the first 3 days. Rescuers and Adopters scramble to get as many dogs and cats out of the shelter beginning on the 4th day those animals ere held.
